Andhra Pradesh Cabinet Passes Resolution on Amaravati Capital

The Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved a resolution urging the Central Government to include ‘Amaravati’ as the capital of Andhra Pradesh in the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act-2014.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting held on Thursday, where a resolution was adopted to replace the words ‘New capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh’ with ‘Amaravati’ in the Act.

I&PR Minister K. Parthasarathy addressed the media, stating that the inclusion of ‘Amaravati’ in the Act would provide legal legitimacy to the capital. He emphasized the need for Parliament to amend the Act and announced that the Cabinet would engage with MPs in Delhi to ensure the resolution's passage in the upcoming session.

The Cabinet also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiating reconstruction works in Amaravati. Furthermore, the decisions made during the 47th Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting were ratified, and land allotments to various institutions within the capital region were approved.

In addition, the Cabinet approved a proposal allowing the APCRDA Commissioner to accept the lowest bids (L1 bidders) for four projects amounting to ₹1,732.306 crore and to issue agreements for their execution.

An administrative sanction of ₹ 560.57 crore was also approved for a package under the Amaravati Capital City Development Project, funded by the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB). This project encompasses design, build, and operate (DBO) works, including maintenance and additional ancillary works.
